Quo
I have just been playing with the new GPS mapping program Quo.
I must say that I am impressed. With the ability to download just the sections you need, ie, GPS Manager, Route Analyser, Advanced Print and Import/Export.
The basic system is a free download and includes 1:100,000 scale maps. It also allows you to download tiles of Aerial photography at 10m for free. Not bad. That alone makes it useful.
They have released versions for walkers, and includes full UK coverage at 1:50K, 25K is available. This is currently priced at £99.95
I like however the ability to just download tiles that you need. This makes it more fiancially viable than Memory-Map.
I have been using Memory-Map for god knows how long, and I like it, but it is expensive. it’s hard to accept change and it really has to be worth it. I like the way you grow with it as you add extensions and features.
However, there are bad bits. Scrolling is a little clunky, The interface is not really that intuitive, but this is to be expected with such young software. I have no doubt that it will evolve and become a serious contender in the Digital mapping area.
When they release the 3D views, like Memory-Map I think more people may take notice.
For the time being I will keep Memory-Map, but the free version of Quo has its place, most notably the areial views. Who knows maybe in time I will switch.
